Oscar Nominations 2012

A word about the Oscar Nominations...

Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook are the frontrunners. I am immediately bored.

I loved Argo. That was assured Filmmaking. Ben Affleck should have been nominated. Tarantino as well.

My favorite Film of the year didn't get any love, but I didn't think it would (The Perks Of Being A Wallflower) - I think Ezra Miller deserved a nod for Best Supporting Actor. He was wonderful.

John Hawkes was snubbed for The Sessions. He was great. It's an ironic snub, too... It used to be a lock to get nominated playing someone who was physically impaired in some way.

I thought Richard Gere was also very good in Arbitrage. He wasn't nominated. And never has been for an Oscar. Wacky.

I also think Sean Penn was overlooked for This Must Be The Place - He plays a Robert Smith meets Ozzy Osbourne-like rock star who becomes a Nazi Hunter. It's a pretty amazing performance.

Melanie Lynskey gave perhaps my favorite performance by an actress this year for the little-seen Hello I Must Be Going. She's the best thing about the Movie by far.

Linda Cardellini was also great in the likewise little seen The Return.

I also really dug Rashida Jones in Celeste And Jesse Forever.

Would have loved to see any nods for:

Not Fade Away, Safety Not Guaranteed, Haywire (editing & sound especially), the aforementioned Perks, The Sessions (besides Helen Hunt) and The Deep Blue Sea.

I'm sure I'm forgetting quite a few. I'm just a bit tired of seeing Oscar bait Movies dominating the awards - Though it is interesting to see Beasts Of The Southern Wild and Amour sneak in there. I haven't seen those Films yet but I plan on checking them out really soon.
