31 days of October Terror: 10/15

Day 15: 80's slasher love! My heart will always go on for the original My Bloody Valentine. 80's slasher film at it's bloody finest.

If it weren't for Tom Atkins starring in the remake, the film would have been unwatchable. And to think, Mr. Atkins was a 'late' addition to the cast.

I'm so angry right now to think about these horror remake directors with no discernible talent going on to full-time careers. Re: Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw & Friday the 13th reboots) is f**king directing CONAN?!

Rant over.

My favorite of the "second-tier" slashers--the mine setting, the non-teen cast of complex characters, the newly-restored gore scenes (on the recent SE DVD release--a fantastic package, even if they inexplicably *didn't* use that awesome original poster art), and of course the Ballad of the Film--I love this movie, and watch it once a year at least.

I didn't hate the remake as much as Racicot did, but I thought it was slight and fairly unnecessary--fun, but only for the 3-d effects and the few in-jokes scattered about. Not one I'll be buying on dvd. I'll stick with the original, thanks. :)

I just wish the remake wasn't so damn stupid. I was like, this is the best they could come up with? But then I was like, weeeee 3-D!
